Hirotake Chikanami, President of JAPCO, Presented Petitions to the Commissioner of Japan Tourism Agency
On Friday, May 13, 2011, Hirotake Chikanami, President & CEO of JCS, met with Hiroshi Mizohata, Commissioner of the Japan Tourism Agency, to present petitions from the members of the Japan Association of Processional Congress Organizers (JAPCO) as the association's president.

The petitions have been collected from JAPCO members since late April 2011 in the wake of the Great East Japan Earthquake for the restoration of the MICE business.
Many petitions have been collected, including "promotion of MICE hosting and support," "restoration of Japan brand," "dissemination of accurate information both at home and abroad," and "normalization of appropriate service activities."
The pleas of the JAPCO members were delivered in person by the president to the Japan Tourism Agency.

We will continue to make our best efforts to reconstruct the MICE business together with our customers.

JCS Tohoku Regional Office to Resume Normal Business Operations
We are pleased to announce that we will resume normal business operation at our Tohoku Regional Office, which has been suspended following the March 11 Great Tohoku-Kanto Earthquake.

We would like to express our sincerest gratitude to the many concerned parties from abroad who have offered warm words of encouragement. Such kind remarks have been a great support to all of us during this difficult time.

We are also deeply sorry to have caused concerns to our customers and the parties involved for such a prolonged period.
Through committing to do our business operations, we will make an effort to the MICE business return to prosperity from now on.
We cordially request your continued support and cooperation.

Our Heartfelt Sympathy to Great Tohoku-Kanto Earthquake and Tsunami Victims and Report of Current Status of JCS
We, at JCS, extend our heartfelt sympathy to the victims of the Great Tohoku-Kanto Earthquake and Tsunami that occurred on March 11. We are deeply saddened by the loss of so many precious lives.

We would like to express our sincerest gratitude to the many concerned parties from abroad who have offered warm words of encouragement.

The infrastructure at JCS's Tohoku Regional Office was slightly damaged by the earthquake. Right now, we are gradually rebuilding with an eye toward recovery. As regards business transactions with the Tohoku Regional Office, the entire company, particularly the Headquarters and the Hokkaido Regional Office, is acting as backup. We would like to assure you that business at JCS will continue as usual.

As to this unprecedented disaster that has never been experienced in Japan and the world, JCS is hoping for a speedy restoration and recovery and the entire team shall come together and resolve to overcome this ordeal.

We are asking for your continued support and cooperation in this regard.

The Essence of Japanese Food in New York
Performed as an element of a project conducted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, this event drew the participation of two hundred of New York's culinary elite including the chefs of top restaurants and food critics.
The guests were treated to demonstrations using traditional Japanese ingredients and given lectures on the attributes and history of Japanese cuisine by Japanese food advocates in the United States.

JCS provided simultaneous English and Japanese interpretations and translations
In November 2009, at a ceremony marking the 20th Anniversary of His Majesty the Emperor's Enthronement Commemorative Ceremony, we were involved in translating the message voiced by the Emperor and the felicitations given by six distinguished attendees; we also provided Japanese-English simultaneous interpretation during the ceremony.

JCS Enters Joint Venture with MCI
JCS and MCI, the global association, communications and event management company headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, have jointly established MCI-JCS Japan Inc. The new company, also to trade as MCI Tokyo Office, shares the office resources and infrastructure with JCS's HQ in Tokyo.

"Utilizing JCS's long-standing expertise and local know-how, MCI-JCS Japan is able to provide valuable services for MCI Group's global clients who wish to have a base or a project in our country,"Hirotake Chikanami, President of both JCS and MCI-JCS Japan, commented. Meanwhile, JCS continues to offer services to its own international and local clients.

The reception to celebrate the new company's opening, held inside its office premises in Tokyo, was attended by Roger Tondeur, President of MCI, and Robin Lokerman, President of MCI Asia Pacific, both of whom are also board members of MCI-JCS Japan.

Among the reception guests were Mr. Kazuyoshi Kaneko, Japan's Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, and Dr. Kuniko Inoguchi, President of Japan Congress Convention Bureau and Member of Japan's House of Representatives. Minister Kaneko spoke about the government's initiatives to establish Japan as a tourism nation, with the goal of attracting 10 million international visitors in 2010, and wished MCI-JCS Japan's success in the coming years.

G8 Hokkaido Toyako Summit
On 7 - 9 July, the world leaders gathered in Toyako area on the Japanese northern island of Hokkaido for the G8 Summit. Various issues including world economy, environmental concerns and African development were discussed. JCS was an official service supplier for the Summit, providing simultaneous interpretation at the leadersf meetings, Major Economics Meeting (MEM) and others, as well as assisting operations of International Media Centre and Sherpa/FASS Meetings. The company provided interpretation services also at the previous Kyushu-Okinawa Summit in 2000 and the experience was certainly helpful when supporting seamless running of this yearfs major international event.

Japanese Government Honors JCS Chairman
Hiroshi Chikanami, Founder and Chairman of JCS, received the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Rays, one of the most prestigious Japanese Orders, from the national government. Upon the reception he commented, gI have spent the last 40 years pursuing my passion as a conference organiser, but this Order is for each and all of us at JCS. We will continue to make our best efforts to render quality services for further development of the MICE industry.h
